On Wednesday, July 31, the Academic Year 2018-2019 of the Higher Schools in the Democratic Republic of Congo was completed, and graduates of the Theological and Informatics Faculties of the Orthodox University of Congo “Saint Athanasios the Athonite” were awarded their diplomas.
The graduation ceremony began with doxology at St. Mark’s Church, where the homonymous school complex and School of Informatics are located.
The Ambassador of Greece to Congo, George Papakostas, the President and the Vice-President of the Greek Community of Kinshasa, Gerasimos Dounis and George Antypas, the university authorities and professors, parents, relatives and friends of the graduate students attented the ceremony.
Representatives of the graduates of both Schools thanked the Orthodox Church, Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa, the Metropolis and the Metropolitan of Kinshasa, Nikiforos, and the Greek Embassy.
Degrees were awarded to the 13 students who successfully graduated the Theological School and to the 5 who successfully graduated the School of Informatics.
The Metropolitan of Kinshasa and Rector of the University, Nikiforos, called on everyone in his speech to praise God for his help and protection during their studies and then the benefactors of the Schools.
The Metropolitan thanked the Ambassador of Greece, the Greek Community and the donors without whom none of the Schools would be able to operate.
