The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew received today, Bright Tuesday, April 22, 2025, the Governor-General of Australia and Representative of the Crown, Mrs. Sam Mostyn, accompanied by her delegation.
The Ecumenical Patriarch and the Governor-General had the opportunity to have a warm and cordial discussion on the work of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, with particular emphasis on the contribution of the Holy Archdiocese to Australia. Special reference was also made to the passing of the Head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, whose work and contribution was highly praised by both parties.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Simeon Beckett, husband of the Governor General, Mr. Miles Armitage, Australian Ambassador in Ankara, Mr. Tony Huber, Consul General in Istanbul, and members of Mrs. Mostyn’s staff. Representing the Patriarchate were Metropolitan Elder Emmanuel of Chalcedon, Metropolitan Maximos of Sylivria, and the Grand Ecclesiarch Mr. Aetios, Director of the Patriarchal Office.
