In an atmosphere filled with reverence, clergy and faithful assembled on Friday and Saturday, November 14 and 15, 2025, at the beloved St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Shrine Church in Flushing.
They gathered first for the solemn beauty of Great Vespers and then for the radiant celebration of the Divine Liturgy, culminating in the Consecration of the Holy Anargyroi Chapel.
Bishop Nektarios of Diokleia presided over the Vespers, while the Divine Liturgy the following morning was presided over by Archbishop Elpidophoros of America. They were accompanied by Proistamenos Fr. Aristidis Garinis, Fr. Alexandros Douvres, retired Proistamenos of St. Nicholas Fr. Paul Palesty, devoted area clergy, and the steadfast leaders of the parish.
During Vespers, Bishop Nektarios unveiled the sacred relics of the Five Martyrs of Samothrace—treasures of profound spiritual weight—which were reverently sealed within the altar on Saturday morning. This holy act hearkened to the earliest centuries of the Church, when martyrs’ relics were placed beneath the altars as a living testament to their witness, echoing the scriptural vision: “I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God.”
On Saturday, addressing the faithful with warmth and fatherly love, the Archbishop declared: “This moment transcends the ordinary and enters the realm of the sacred for your community. You have labored with passion and unwavering dedication. You have offered not merely from your abundance but from your very hearts. You have envisioned and brought to life a creation—architectural and iconographic—shimmering with the glory of Byzantium. And now, within this jewel-box of sacred craftsmanship, we stand before God, beseeching Him to send forth His Divine Spirit to enliven this holy place, that it may become the meeting point of Heaven and Earth.”
