With the blessing of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, the Central Youth Committee of New South Wales (CYC NSW) has changed its name to Greek Orthodox Youth NSW (GO Youth NSW).
Becoming GO Youth NSW is more than just having a new name and logo—it is a move to clarify and capture the essence of the Greek Orthodox youth movement in New South Wales.
GO Youth NSW aims to unify and strengthen the youth of our Holy Orthodox Church and cultivate the renewal and development of their faith.
The Central Youth Committee of New South Wales (CYC NSW) was first established in 1989 as a committee under the auspices of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia. The name change comes after consideration to an identity that best encapsulates the youth of 2021 and the essence of both the Greek Orthodox faith and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.
This new name includes ‘Greek Orthodox’ in its branding as a direct confession of the faith.
Importantly, the acronym ‘GO’ captures the dynamism of the youth movement. This command to ‘go’ is a call to action that Christ personally asks of all young people. It is imperative for us to take up our cross and follow Christ.
The committee behind GO Youth and its initiatives is overseen by Bishop Emilianos of Meloa, Chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, and coordinates the Archdiocesan District of Sydney’s Youth Ministry, facilitating support and connection between youth representatives from all NSW parishes, universities and parish youth fellowships.
The rename and subsequent rebrand is a part of a restructuring to more effectively meet the needs of teenagers and young adults in the Greek Orthodox Church of Australia.
