Ghana’s Orthodox Community rejoices in 69th Annual Spiritual Revival

The “69th Annual Spiritual Revival” of the Orthodox faithful of the Holy Metropolis of Accra has been successfully concluded.

These events celebrate the historical conversion of Ghanaian Christians to Orthodoxy, as they officially transitioned from Protestantism to the ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa in the year 1982.

On the morning of Saturday, February 1, a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Holy Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Gomoa Fomena.

Following a brief interval, the clergy, together with the faithful, conducted Holy Supplications, commemorating both the living and the departed brethren.

Subsequently, an Orthodox teaching session was held. The faithful, divided into groups, studied selected passages from the works of Saint Athanasius the Great, analyzing his theological and pastoral teachings within the contemporary African context.

The general theme was “Apostolic Faith and the Church Today.”

In the afternoon, a Choral Festival took place. All Orthodox Communities of Ghana performed Christian hymns and songs, offering praise and thanksgiving to God through sacred music and dance.

Later that night, a Vigil was held in honor of the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, including the Great Vespers, Matins, and the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy.

The service was presided over by Metropolitan Daniel of Accra, along with the entire Orthodox clergy of Ghana.

During the “Liti”, a procession of the Gospel and Holy Icons moved through the village, led by a vast gathering of faithful holding lit candles and chanting in the local Twi language: “The Light of Christ leads us to the Father.”

The Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Pilgrimage Church of Saint Raphael, located deep within the forest.

All the faithful participated in the Holy Eucharist, manifesting their communion with the Body of Christ, which is the Church.

On Sunday morning, February 2, the festive program continued, and in the late afternoon, the Orthodox Christians of Ghana renewed their commitment to gathering once again in the coming year.
