Today, September 8, 2022, Feast day of the nativity of the Theotokos, The Abbess (Gerontissa) Theodosia of the Holy Monastery of Saint Ephraim in Nea Makri fell asleep in the Lord at 103 years of age.
It was witnessed that at the time of the ascent of her soul to the heavenly kingdom, a bright light flashed at that very moment, filling the whole monastery with bright light which was also full of stars, floating up to heaven.
Gerontissa Theodosia is remembered as being a beacon of love and humility to all who came to know her.
May we have her prayers and blessing. May she be granted “good paradise”.
The Monastery of Saint Ephraim of Nea Makri or The Annunciation of the Theotokos is a women’s monastery on Mount Amomo, Attica. It is located in the area of Xilokerizas east of Mount Pentelikos.
The old monastery that was destroyed and was in the same location was a male monastery and operated since the 10th century. A.D. In that century many hermitages are counted on that “mountain of the pure ones”.
The monastery celebrates its feast days on January 3 the day of finding the relics of Saint Ephraim, on March 25 the Annunciation of the Theotokos and on May 5 the day of the martyrdom of Saint Ephraim.
The monastery belongs to the Holy Metropolis of Kifissia, while in its courtyard there is also the tomb of Fotis Kontoglou (20th century).
