The funeral service of the late Archimandrite Hilarion Grammenos, one of the last representatives of the older generation of abbots in the Holy Land, was held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior on Mount Tabor.
Archimandrite Hilarion reposed in the Lord on the afternoon of June 18, prompting an outpouring of grief among the clergy, monastics, and faithful of the Jerusalem Patriarchate.
The funeral service was presided over by Elder Chrysostomos, Abbot of the Monastery of Saint Gerasimos of the Jordan. Numerous clergy, monks, and pilgrims gathered to pay their final respects to the departed elder.
Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem participated in prayer during the service and delivered the funeral oration, honoring the life and ministry of Archimandrite Hilarion and recalling his many years of faithful service to the Church of Jerusalem.
In a statement issued following his repose, the Jerusalem Patriarchate expressed its profound sorrow and highlighted the late archimandrite’s fruitful and dedicated ministry in the Holy Land.
Throughout his ecclesiastical life, Archimandrite Hilarion served the Patriarchate of Jerusalem in various positions of responsibility. However, his name became most closely associated with the Monastery of the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor, where he served as Abbot for many years, dedicating himself to the spiritual care of the monastery and its pilgrims.
