Despite the visit to the Monastery of Sinai by the Greek Ambassador to Cairo, Nikolaos Papageorgiou, and the Secretary General for Religious Affairs at the Ministry of Education, Giorgos Kalantzis, efforts to find a solution to the issue proved fruitless.
During their meetings with Archbishop Damianos and expelled monks, the ambassador and the ministry secretary general agreed to convene a general assembly within the first two weeks of September. However, Archbishop Damianos later rejected this agreement, despite having initially agreed to it.
According to reports from Sinai, Archbishop Damianos initially agreed to resign and pave the way for a succession process. However, he subsequently rejected the proposals put forward by Kalantzis and Papageorgiou.
