In a one-page letter, with a symbolic date on Greek Independence Day, March 25, 2021, Alex Karloutsos announced his resignation from the position of Vicar General of the Archdiocese of America, expressing his “gratitude” to the Archbishop for “honoring” him.
It is important that he states that he had submitted his resignation last year when he turned 75, but this “was not accepted.” However, this year he insisted and finally his “request” was approved by the Archbishop and so he will retire from active ministry on May 3, 2021.
However, as reported by hellenicscope.com, he will remain in charge of the foundation of the “Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Foundation” for a short time while continuing his role “as a spiritual advisor of the Order of St. Andrew.”
He will also continue as a spiritual advisor of the Friends of St. Nicholas, while doing his part to organize the upcoming visit of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to the US in the fall.
