With the blessing of Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodore II, and at the invitation of Metropolitan Daniel of Accra, the First General Clerical Assembly for the year 2026 of the Holy Clergy of Ghana convened at the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Saviour in Accra.
The Assembly commenced with the customary opening prayer, after which Metropolitan Daniel conveyed to the clergy present the paternal love, heartfelt blessings, and unceasing pastoral care of the Patriarch for the missionary work in the blessed land of Ghana.
Thereafter, Metropolitan Daniel presented a thorough and detailed report of his two-year episcopal ministry (April 2024 – February 2026), outlining comprehensively the achievements in the areas of pastoral care, liturgical life, catechetical and educational activity, as well as the social and philanthropic outreach of the local Church. Particular emphasis was placed on the strengthening of the parishes, the continuing formation of the clergy, and the support of youth and families.
In accordance with the Statute of the Holy Metropolis (Article 11), Metropolitan Daniel formally presented the annual appointments to the members of the new Metropolitan Council, expressing his paternal confidence and wishing them fruitful, harmonious, and God-pleasing cooperation for the glory of God and the benefit of the faithful.
Subsequently, members were appointed to the newly established Committees:
1. Orthodox Education and Ecclesiastical Formation, 2. Church Property.
Metropolitan Daniel underlined the importance of these Committees for the proper organization and sustainable development of the local Church, encouraging their members to carry out their mission with zeal, discernment, and a spirit of ecclesial unity.
During the Assembly, a wide range of matters concerning the orderly functioning of the parishes, the pastoral response to contemporary challenges, and the further strengthening of the missionary witness in Ghana were discussed. Metropolitan Daniel provided concrete pastoral guidance and practical directives, emphasizing the necessity of unity, responsibility, and constant spiritual vigilance.
The clergy unanimously expressed their gratitude to the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC), USA; the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity of Thessaloniki; and the Missionary Association “Saint Kosmas the Aetolian” of Thessaloniki, for their valuable and multifaceted support during the past year (financial assistance to clergy, infrastructure projects in schools, water boreholes in parishes, shipment of a humanitarian aid container, renovations of Holy Churches, among others). These contributions substantially strengthened the presence and ministry of the Orthodox Church in Ghana, offering tangible signs of love and hope to the local faithful.
Before the conclusion of the Clerical Assembly, a supplicatory prayer was offered for peace throughout the world, for stability and progress among the peoples of the African continent, and for the steadfastness and unity of the Orthodox Churches.
The Assembly concluded in an atmosphere of spiritual unity, brotherhood, and renewed commitment to the continuation of the missionary work for the glory of God and the salvation of souls.
