For the first time in centuries, and after nearly seventeen centuries since its construction, the first Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the major ancient church of the city of Aqaba, marking a moment of profound historical and spiritual significance.
The sacred service was presided over by Archbishop Christophoros, with the participation of Archimandrite Andreas, the spiritual head of Aqaba Governorate, and the concelebration of a group of clergy. The Divine Liturgy was attended by official representatives, dignitaries, and members of the local parish community.
The celebration of the Divine Liturgy within this archaeological church revived a long-silent place of Christian worship, reconnecting the present faithful with the early Christian heritage of the region. The event stood as a powerful testament to the enduring presence of Christianity in Aqaba and its historical role in the spiritual life of the area.
This historic service not only honored the memory of the early Christian community that once worshipped there but also reaffirmed the living continuity of faith across the centuries.
