The Holy Monastery of St. Nicholas in Bala, Patras, has been engulfed in flames due to a massive wildfire raging on multiple fronts across the Achaia region, according to pelop.gr.
Photos published by pelop.gr show part of the roof of the women’s monastery destroyed by the fire, while firefighters, nuns, and volunteers are engaged in a relentless battle to contain the blaze and protect the premises.
Earlier, the nuns were safely evacuated from the monastery. Meanwhile, rescue operations are underway to evacuate residents and domestic animals from the wider area.
The fight against the flames continues, with authorities urging residents to remain vigilant and follow evacuation orders where issued.
