The “final farewell” was addressed by a crowd of faithful and the clergy of Lemnos and Saint Efstratios to their beloved Metropolitan Hierotheos, on Wednesday at the Metropolitan Church of the Holy Trinity of Myrina.
The flags flew at half-mast and the bells mourned on the two Greek islands of the borderline for three days.
There were also present Metropolitan Dorotheos of Siros, Kea, Tinos, Andros and Mykonos, Metropolitan Kyrillos of Maroussi, Kifissia and Oropos, as well as the Bishop of Amoros and Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Vlatades (Moni Vlatadon), Nikiphoros, as representative of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
In a mourning atmosphere, the services of the Municipality remained closed, and the shops were closed from 12.00 pm. until the end of the Funeral Service.
The reception of the holy relic took place at the Metropolitan Church of the Holy Trinity of Myrina around 3am on Wednesday, followed by a reading of the Holy Gospel by the priests.
Early in the morning a Divine Liturgy was performed followed by a reading of the Holy Gospel by the priests and a popular pilgrimage. The Funeral Service was held at 5 in the afternoon, while there was an honored military guard.
