On Monday, October 25, many believers gathered at the Church of Agios Demetrius in Zeitoun to honor the memory of Saint Demetrius.
The Festive Vespers and the Artoclasia were performed by Archimandrite Paul along with the Archimandrites: Stephanos, Paisios, Joachim, Michael, and Theodore, the priests: George and Paul and Deacon Parthenios.
After the end of the Solemn Vespers, Archimandrite Stephen addressed the flock and spoke about the personality and work of Saint Demetrius, this brilliant figure of the Orthodox Church. The Glorious great martyr loved Christ with all his being. But as Archimandrite Stefanos said, he did not keep this great love only for himself but tried to pass it on to the young people of Thessaloniki, calling them to a spiritual refuge, which he called “refuge” because in that place the young people of Thessaloniki found refuge and the Saint taught them with patience and love how to become good and righteous Christians and how to dedicate their whole existence to God. Saint Demetrius did not hesitate and confessed his faith in God even if he knew that insurmountable sufferings awaited him.
Archimandrite Stefanos also conveyed the paternal love and blessings of Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and the Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis.
