Feast of the Transfiguration of the Savior celebrated at Gapyeong Monastery in Korea

The Feast of the Transfiguration of the Savior was celebrated with spiritual joy at the women’s monastery in Gapyeong, Korea, on August 5 and 6, 2026.

On the eve of the feast, the monastery’s priest, Fr. Antonios Woo, celebrated Great Vespers with the blessing of the five loaves.

The following day, Metropolitan Ambrosios of Korea and Exarch of Japan presided over Matins and the Divine Liturgy.

Concelebrating were Protopresbyter Antonios Woo, Protopresbyter Roman Kavchak, Fr. Jeremiah Cho, Fr. Hilarion Jeong, Fr. Antonios Lim, and Fr. Johan Park.

In his homily, the Metropolitan addressed the question: “Why was Christ transfigured before His disciples on a high mountain?” He concluded by urging the faithful to “seek the things above, not the things of the earth.”

At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the traditional blessing of the grapes took place. Following the distribution of the antidoron and the reading of the thanksgiving prayers, everyone proceeded to the grave of the late Metropolitan Sotirios, where a memorial service was chanted.

Among the pilgrims were campers and staff members from the high-school session. During the agape meal, they presented a special program featuring psalms and hymns.

The celebration also marked, with God’s help, the conclusion of the third camp session of the summer of 2026.
