The festive celebrations in honor of St. Nektarios the Wonderworker were held with great solemnity and devotion at the Church of St. Nektarios in Fawkner, Melbourne, under the Holy Diocese of Chora.
The celebrations began on Saturday, November 8, with the Great Vespers Service, and culminated on Sunday, November 9, the feast day of the Saint, with the celebration of Matins and the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, presided over by His Grace Bishop Eumenios of Chora, representing Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
In his homilies, both at the Vespers and during the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Eumenios spoke of St. Nektarios as a model of peace and humility amid times of injustice and hardship.
“St. Nektarios endured pain and wrongs inflicted even by people within the Church,” the Bishop said, “yet he never lost his trust in God nor his love for the Church. He transformed bitterness into prayer and silence into doxology.”
The Bishop emphasized that the example of St. Nektarios remains timeless, teaching that holiness is not born of recognition or praise, but of forgiveness and a heart at peace.
Following the Divine Liturgy, a procession of the Saint’s icon and holy relics took place with reverence and participation from the faithful.
The celebration concluded with a parish festival in the church courtyard, attended by a large number of parishioners and members of the wider Greek-Australian community.
Bishop Eumenios conveyed the fatherly blessings and love of Archbishop Makarios, extending heartfelt thanks to the parish priest, the church council, the chanters, volunteers, and all those who contributed to the organization and success of the feast.
