On the feast of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius, Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia presided over the Holy Hierarchical Liturgy in the church dedicated to that benefactor of God in New Belgrade, on November 8, 2021.
During the Holy Liturgy, with the concelebration of Bishop Jerotej of Toplica, and the clergy of the Archbishopric of Belgrade and Karlovci, the Patriarch of Serbia ordained deacon Zoran Nedic to the rank of priest.
The construction of the church of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius began on April 22, 1998, with a break during the war years (September 1998 – June 1999). Patriarch Pavle consecrated the foundations of the church on November 15, 1998, while on November 8, 2001, on the feast of Saint Demetrius, he consecrated the crosses for both buildings. Next to the church, there is an accompanying building with a bell tower and the necessary technical rooms. The top of the bell tower dome is located at a height of almost 32 meters.
