On Tuesday, October 26, 2021, the day of remembrance of Saint Demetrius the Great Martyr, Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium and Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxembourg performed the Divine Liturgy at the celebrating Holy Temple of Saint Demetrius in Maasmechelen, Belgium.
The Metropolitan in his sermon referred to St. Demetrius and His only ambition to be near to Jesus Christ as an inspiration for the spiritual life of the Christian.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Metropolitan thanked the Hierarchical Head of the Parish, Protopresbyter Athanasios Karatzogiannis, for the pastoral work he performs in the Parish, as well as the rest of the clergy for their participation in the feast. The Metropolitan also expressed his joy for the beautiful performance of the hymns of the feast by the young people of the Parish who study at the School of Byzantine Music of the Holy Metropolis.
