In the presence of archpriests, clergy and many believers, who prayed together, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the chapel of the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus, on the occasion of the memory of the first bishop and patron saint of Nicosia, Saint Triphyllius, on Thursday, June 13.
The Divine Liturgy was held by Archimandrite Triphyllius Onesiforou of the Archdiocese of Cyprus, along with Deacon Theodore Pittaras.
In his speech, theologian Michalis Nikolaou, stressed the great effort the saint had made to escape his worldly recognition and to submit to a simple old man, Saint Spyridon.
St Triphyllius was raised in a pagan environment, with comforts, riches and wordly development, and was particularly educated in the art of rhetoric and law.
Later, he was impressed by the words of humble and worldly illiterate Saint Spyridon and was subjected to him, observing uninterrupted obedience and accepting the reprimands of the elder man every time he stumbled.
The Divine Grace on him was so obvious that he was surrounded with light and the rest could not face him.
