The feast day of Saint Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher, the progenitor of the holy lineage of the Nemanjics was solemnly celebrated in a magnificent church devoted to him in the New Belgrade district, in Belgrade.

On the feast day, on the eleventh year since the first service was held, in the fulfilled church of Saint Simeon the Myrrh-Streaming, with the blessing of Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia, Bishop Stefan of Remesiana, Vicar of the Patriarch, officiated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy.

The Bishop was concelebrated by protopresbyter-staurophors Petar Lukic, Radic Radicevic and Stanko Trajkovic, Zivota Markovic, Branko Zelen, Nikola Trajkovic and Krstan Knezevic, archpriest Jovan Planojevic and Slavisa Popovic, presbyter Petar Bakajlic and protodeacon Damjan Bozic, readers Milos Saric and Milos Stamenkovic.

Belgrade’s male choir conducted by deacon Vladimir Rumenic sang responses along with presbyters Milos Markovic and theologians of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Belgrade.

The Holy Liturgy was attended by the Minister of Innovation and Technological Development, Nenad Popovic, Director of the Office for Cooperation with Churches in Religious Communities Vladimir Roganovic, Financial Director of the Thermal Power Plants Zeljko Vujinovic and the president of the Church Steering Board, academician Svetislav Bozic.

Bishop Stefan reminded the faithful people of the miraculous life of Saint Simeon, in whose honor the church is being built, which, although unfinished, represents the decoration of the capital.

The head of the church, protopresbyter-staurophor Radic Radicevic, thanked the Bishop Stefan of Remesiana, for his paternal care and care for the completion of the holy church. On that occasion, he pointed out his gratitude to all the contributors who selflessly, in the first place, coming and participating in holy worship, contribute to the development of the church life of the church and its parishes.

Certificates of commendation of Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia were presented to the benefactors of the church of St. Simeon the Myrrh-gusher for their selfless love and zeal for the Serbian Orthodox Church: Milan Trninic, a telecommunications engineer from Belgrade; Miodrag and Olga Potparevic, from Belgrade; Zeljko Vujnovic, BA in Ecomonics; Dragutin and Jovanka Milosevic, owners of the Kole Car dealership from Zemun; Stojanka Spremo, a retired medical worker from New Belgrade; and Darko Trajkovic, owner of the company Active Design from New Belgrade. Letters of gratitude were also handed out for the contribution in the construction of the holy church to Ognjen Turanjanin, Goran Gligorijevic, Nebojsa Vostic, Danilo Vucic, Zeljko Marovic, Nevenka Ljusic, and Slavoljub Radivojevic.

The works on the construction of the church began in 2020 with the blessing of the late Serbian Patriarch Pavle, when the land for the construction of the church in the central part of New Belgrade, in front of the Palace of Serbia, was consecrated. With the blessing of the late Patriarch of Serbia, Irinej, the church has been in liturgical use since January 2011.
