The difficult conditions under which the missionary work of the Diocese of Toliara and South Madagascar is carried out was described by the Diocese via a post on Facebook.
The post emphasizes that every Sunday after the Divine Liturgy; the struggle begins in order to prepare measured portions of food for the faithful.
“We are always on the run!
Even the wafer is not enough for everyone. One obley is not enough for 500 believers. Leaving the Temple, the priest, whether he is a bishop, a presbyter or a deacon, runs to the makeshift kitchen.
We cut the wood, light a fire, bring water from the well using buckets and wait patiently until we drop the sacks of rice. We count the portions, 500 that were gathered plus a small percentage around the temple, a total of 600 portions.
The process takes about two hours. And within these two hours, one realizes that 600 become 1000 and more.
How does everyone get to know that there is food in that village? How do people start running for 10 and 15 kilometers just to get a portion of rice? How do the words “mihazakaza”, “running” and “breadline” have become one? Everyone knows they have just one hour to secure a plate of rice and the rice is never enough.
Most of the time we give our own portions too to the people and again there are people who do not manage to get food.”
