An event for the 2,500-year anniversary of the Battle of Thermopylae and the Naval Battle of Salamis took place on Tuesday, December 8, at St. Nicholas Parish Event Hall in Marrickville, Sydney.
The event, in which the keynote speaker was Konstantinos Giannakodimos, Communication Consultant A’, Head of the Office of Public Diplomacy at the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney, was co-organized by the Office of Public Diplomacy at the Consulate General, the Athenian Association of New South Wales, the Laconian Federation of New South Wales and the Australian Hellenic Educators’ Association.
The event, which was attended by a large number of people, was attended by the Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Christos Karras, Archimandrite Christodoulos Oikonomou, Proistamenos of the Parish of St Nicholas in Marrickville, the Director of the Greek Program of SBS Radio station Themis Kallos, the owner and manager of the radio station 1683, Costas Nikolis, and representatives of associations and organizations.
The President of the Association of Athenians NSW Cathy Valis, the President of the Laconian Federation NSW Maria Glekas and the President of the Australian Hellenic Educators’ Association Panagiotis Diamantis addressed a greeting. Also, a greeting of the Mayor of Salamis, George Panagopoulos, was read for the specific event.
Konstantinos Giannakodimos in his speech emphasized the values that the Greeks defended during the Persian wars and especially that of civilization.
