In a recent letter to the Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Dendias, following a letter sent by the Greek Minister in light of the growing Turkish provocative and delinquent behavior, EU High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, stressed that the European Council has made it clear that is ready to use all means at the disposal of the EU to protect its interests, as well as those of its Member States, according to diplomatic sources.
The head of European diplomacy also pointed out that Turkish illegal actions, which affect the Greek, as well as the Cypriot maritime zones, create further tension in the region. He added that these actions include the Turkish unilateral regulation on the search and rescue area, which, as the EU High Representative characteristically emphasized, contradicts the relevant regulations of ICAO and the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Finally, he concluded saying that achieving security and stability in the region requires dialogue in a spirit of good faith and abstaining from unilateral actions. In this context, Turkey should take its decisions and show in practice that it really wants a constructive cooperation with the EU, the same diplomatic sources said.
In addition, they pointed out that at the request of our country and Cyprus, the EU Foreign Ministers, during their forthcoming teleconference on Thursday, will discuss Turkish illegal actions in the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as in Varosha.
