The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy is meeting the Turkish Foreign Minister in Malta today.
After a telephone conversation with Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on July 23, Josep Borrell tweeted that the two men intended to meet before the Informal meeting of EU Foreign Affairs Ministers to be held on August 27 and 28 in Berlin, as well as the fact that they both agree that “there is a need for de-escalation”.

Following FAC discussion on Turkey and further rise of tensions in East Med, I spoke with @MevlutCavusoglu. We agreed on need to de-escalate tensions and meet ahead of informal Gymnich Council. We also agreed to work together on cease fire in Libya in framework of Berlin process
