As a true believer to his neo-Ottoman plans, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan opened up another front.
On this occasion, he decided to confront Israel as reported by tovima.gr. Addressing MPs, he made special reference to Jerusalem, saying that it was built by Suleiman the Magnificent. He stressed that the Ottoman Empire ruled over Jerusalem from 1516 to 1917.
“Our ancestors have shown their respect for centuries by keeping Jerusalem in high esteem and making it prosperous. “One can come across the traces of the Ottoman resistance in this city which we were forced to leave in tears during the First World War,” Erdogan said.
“Jerusalem is our city. It is a city built by us,” added the Turkish President.
The Foreign Ministry of Israel declined to comment on the statement.
