Recep Tayyip Erdogan continues his provocative statements, a few days after the desecration of Hagia Sophia and its conversion into a mosque.
“Enemy attacks and political crises cannot destroy our homeland. With the opening of Hagia Sophia, we are witnessing the rebirth of our nation,” the Turkish president said after the end of the cabinet.
He added that the “reopening” of Hagia Sophia for worship is the latest example that Turkey is exercising its sovereign rights. He also encouraged the young people to participate in the morning prayer.
According to Open TV, Erdogan spoke to the cabinet for at least half an hour on the issue of Hagia Sophia, reiterating that Ankara does not covet anyone’s lands and wealth.
“We are determined to do whatever it takes to achieve our future goals, both to compensate for the injustices we have suffered in the past and to defend our rights today,” he noted, while presenting the conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque as his great achievement.
