Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared today that “the spirit of the United Nations died in Gaza” following Israeli strikes against displaced Palestinians in Rafah. He called on the “Islamic world” to respond decisively.
“The UN cannot even protect its own personnel. What are you waiting for to act? The spirit of the United Nations died in Gaza,” Erdogan stated to his party deputies.
In his speech, Erdogan criticized the international institution’s inability to address the crisis and urged leaders from predominantly Muslim countries to take unified action. “I have a few words to say to the Islamic world: what are you waiting for to make a joint decision? God will hold you responsible,” he emphasized. He further added, “Israel is not only a threat to Gaza but to the whole of humanity.”
Erdogan warned that no state is secure as long as Israel disregards international law. “This also concerns Turkey,” he noted. “Israel and those who support it hope that we will forget this genocide: this genocide will not be forgotten. The killing of babies, children, attacks on hospitals, churches, and mosques will not be forgotten.”
His comments reflect a broader call for solidarity and action within the Muslim world, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian and political crisis in Gaza.
