Speaking today on ERT1 TV, the Professor of Epidemiology of the Medical School of the University of Athens, Athina Linou, was invited to comment with her scientific position on the statements of Metropolitan Pavlos of Kozani.
Taking into account the increased cases of the last days and the restrictions that have been imposed in the city of Kozani, Athina Linou was called to answer the following question: “What will a parent understand and what will s/he convey to the child if that person went to church in Kozani on Sunday, which has been placed under lockdown, and heard the Metropolitan saying that in Greece we have fewer deaths because we have more believers?”. The professor of epidemiology replied: “Maybe the role of scientists is to talk to both the clergy and the bishops so that we can convince them” and added that “we need to cite examples of church places, if necessary, where the virus has spread and transmitted.”
The professor clarified that “faith and faith in the holy mysteries are one thing, but everyday life inside and outside the church or our daily life is another thing.”
The professor of epidemiology concluded by pithily noting that “when the Patriarch wears a mask, you can not be objector.”
