On July 11, Emmanuel Sfiatkos was ordained Bishop of Christoupolis, Assistant Bishop to the Metropolitan of Germany, upon the recommendation of Metropolitan Augustinos of Germany and the proposal of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew at the Holy Synod in Chambésy on June 23.
Metropolitan Augustinos of Germany officiated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Assumption of the Savior in Berlin, of which the new Bishop has served as the chief for many years, accompanied by his three Assistant Bishops, Vasileios of Aristi, Evmenios of Lefka, and Vartholomaios of Arianz.
Several priests of the Metropolis of Germany, as well as other Orthodox dioceses in Germany, were prayerfully attending in the altar, who were not allowed to concelebrate the Divine Liturgy due to COVID-19 restrictive measures.
The Ambassador of Greece in Berlin, Theodoros Daskarolis, attended the Divine Liturgy. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Berlin sent Assistant Bishop Matthias Heinrich, the Evangelical Church sent Deputy Bishop Pröpstin Christine-Maria Bammer, and the Archbishop of the Ethiopian Church in Germany, Dionysus, was also present. Local authorities were represented by former Mayor of Steglitz-Zehlendorf Norbert Kopp.
