The Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Athens, Omar Amer Youssef, welcomed the newly elected Archbishop of Sinai, Pharan, and Raitho, and Abbot of the historic Monastery of Saint Catherine at Mount Sinai, Simeon, at the Egyptian Embassy in central Athens.
Ambassador Youssef congratulated the Archbishop on his election and wished him every success in the fulfillment of his new mission.
According to a statement by the Embassy and a post on social media, the Egyptian Ambassador emphasized Egypt’s deep appreciation for the Monastery of Saint Catherine, highlighting its profound religious symbolism and unique historical importance.
For his part, Archbishop Simeon expressed his gratitude to Egypt, which he described as his “second homeland,” conveying his respect and appreciation for the Egyptian people. He also underlined the unique character of Greek–Egyptian relations and the deeply rooted historical ties that unite the two nations.
Finally, according to the same statement, the Archbishop expressed his deep gratitude for the invaluable efforts of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in protecting and safeguarding all religious sites within Egyptian territory.
