Minister of Education, Research and Religious Affairs and SYRIZA MP Kostas Gavroglu announced his intention to withdraw from politics, making it clear that he would not stand as a candidate in the forthcoming general elections.
His intention to withdraw was announced during an interview for “News 24/7” radio station on Tuesday.
“I will not be a candidate in the next general elections. I am 72 years old, and I think at some point people should not go on. There are younger people for politics. I really need to get on with my life, my family and my friends,” Kostas Gavroglu said.
He added: “I believe that the Education Minister should not stand as a candidate, because the temptation to be partial is great. Reality is so much more complicated. No one should take this risk in one’s everyday life.”
