The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew expressed the sympathy and support of the Mother Church for the biblical-scale disaster and the tragic loss of dozens of lives caused by the deadly floods in Spain in a telegram to the shepherd of the Iberian Peninsula, Metropolitan Vissarion of Spain and Portugal.
The Ecumenical Patriarch prayed for the repose of the victims and the relief of those affected, as well as for the swift restoration of the damages. He underscored that “we all have a duty to respect and protect God’s creation, our home, and not to destroy it recklessly, thereby leading to our own self-destruction.”
