With a series of three-day events taking place from January 31 to February 2, in the presence of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the Philanthropic Brotherhood of Thessaloniki, the city’s oldest charitable organization, will celebrate 150+5 years of history and social contribution.
Presenting the program, Brotherhood President Giorgos Konstantinidis described the anniversary as a milestone, noting that “the history of the Brotherhood is intertwined with the history of Thessaloniki itself,” highlighting its long-standing role in supporting the city through major crises and ongoing social needs.
Today, the Brotherhood actively supports the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the missionary work of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, local church institutions, hospitals, schools, universities, social structures for the homeless, as well as students through financial aid and scholarships.
Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki praised the Brotherhood’s multifaceted charitable work and emphasized the significance of the Ecumenical Patriarch’s presence, underlining the deep and enduring bond between Thessaloniki and the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He also noted that Patriarch Bartholomew will preside over Divine Liturgies during the celebrations at various churches in the city.
