In his message, the Ecumenical Patriarch conveyed his prayerful support and spiritual closeness to the bereaved family, emphasizing the compassion and solidarity of the Mother Church at this time of sorrow.
At the Funeral Service, which was held at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Athens at midday on Monday, 19 January, the Ecumenical Patriarch was represented by the Metropolitan of Spain and Portugal.
