The 60th anniversary of the ordination to the diaconate of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, which took place on August 13, 1961, at the Holy Metropolitan Church of Panagia in Imbros, will be honored by the Holy Diocese of Imbros and Tenedos.
The Diocese of the Ecumenical Patriarch’s birthplace organizes a variety of events, which will be honored by His presence. The Ecumenical Patriarch is expected to arrive in Imbros on Friday, August 6, 2021, early in the afternoon.
The Ecumenical Patriarch will preside over the Holy Services in the Temples of his village, in Saint Theodore, as well as in other villages, and a memorial service will be held for the repose of the souls of his late parents. The highlight will be the Patriarchal Divine Liturgy that will be performed on Friday, August 13, at the Holy Metropolitan Church of Panagia, where the Ecumenical Patriarch was ordained a deacon 60 years ago.
Also, the Patriarch will inaugurate three Holy Chapels in Malaki, Schinoudi, Eulambio, and Agridia. The Ecumenical Patriarch will also inaugurate a painting exhibition in Saint Theodore and two photography exhibitions, the first of Stylianos Charalambidis, entitled “Wildflowers of the Athos and Imbros Peninsula”, in Agridia, and the second by Cevahir Buğu and Vasso Xenou, entitled “The Imbros of the Patriarch”, in Schinoudi.
On Wednesday, August 11, the Ecumenical Patriarch will attend the lecture of Professor Dr. Arne Strid, “The botanical exploration of Greece and Mount Athos”, which will take place at the University Amphitheater, and the next day, Thursday, August 12, will lay the foundation of the school park “Patriarch Bartholomew” in Saint Theodore. On the afternoon of Friday, August 13, Patriarch Bartholomew will attend the Concert of the Choir “Cassiani the Hymnwriter” of the Holy Diocese of Neapolis and Stavroupolis, which will conclude the events in honor of the Ecumenical Patriarch.
