Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew departed today, Friday, October 24, for an official visit to Romania, following an invitation from Patriarch Daniel of Romania.
The visit marks the consecration of the Holy Icons of Romania’s new National Cathedral in Bucharest, as well as the celebrations commemorating 140 years since the granting of Autocephaly and 100 years since the recognition of the Patriarchal dignity of the Romanian Orthodox Church by the Ecumenical Throne.
During his stay, Patriarch Bartholomew will preside over liturgical celebrations, meet with the President and Prime Minister of Romania, address a solemn session of the Holy Synod, and receive an honorary distinction from Dimitrie Cantemir Christian University.
Accompanying Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew is a Patriarchal delegation comprising hierarchs, clergy, and associates. Metropolitan Apostolos of Derkoi has been appointed as Patriarchal commissioner in Constantinople and accompanied the Patriarch to the airport for his departure.
