Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew expressed profound sorrow and shock over the tragic loss of dozens of lives—most of them young people—and the injury of many others in a fire at a nightclub on New Year’s night in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.
In a letter to the President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, the Ecumenical Patriarch extended heartfelt condolences and assured him of the Mother Church’s sympathy and support.
He also prayed that God may grant rest to the souls of the departed and strengthen their families and loved ones in their heavy grief, as well as the people of Switzerland during this time of trial. He further wished the injured a swift and complete recovery.
