On Thursday, February 13, 2025, the premiere screening of the documentary “The Theological School of Halki Today”, directed by Fatih Öztürk and Okan Şeker, took place in a packed hall at the Greek School of Galata. The event was held under the auspices of the Holy Metropolis of Derkoi, in collaboration with the newly established film production company “Kozmopolis İnce Çizgi.”
The screening was honored by the presence of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, as well as distinguished guests, including Üsküdar Mayor Sinem Dedetaş, prominent lawyer Kezban Hatemi, a representative of the Armenian Patriarchate, historian and writer Pelin Batu, academics from Istanbul, Marmara, Yıldız, and Kültür Universities, and notable figures from the arts and cultural sector.
The documentary highlights the perspectives of graduates of the Theological School, beginning with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, followed by Elder Metropolitan Apostolos of Derkoi, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Myra, Archon Teacher of the Greek Nation and Professor Emeritus of the University of Athens Konstantinos Delikostantis, and Archon Hieromnemon and Director of the Historical Archive of the Ecumenical Patriarchate Antonis Chatzopoulos. The film also features insights from historian and author Pelin Batu and Professor Salih İnci.
Shot over the course of a year, the documentary explores various locations, including the Theological School of Halki, the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and Medeniyet University of Constantinople. It not only examines the historical significance of the institution but also delves into the cosmopolitan past, religious, and cultural diversity of Constantinople.
In his speech, Metropolitan Apostolos of Derkoi emphasized the historical and cultural importance of the Theological School of Halki, while directors Fatih Öztürk and Okan Şeker provided insight into the creative process and stages of filming.
The documentary, produced by Kozmopolis İnce Çizgi, is set to be screened at film festivals in Europe, the United States, and Australia, under the auspices of the Holy Metropolis of Derkoi. Its goal is to engage audiences worldwide, foster discussions about the historical and cultural legacy of the Theological School, and raise awareness of the importance of its reopening.
