A seismic tremor of 4.7 on the Richter scale was recorded at 10:34 a.m., “shaking” Mount Athos.
Dr. Dominikos Vamvakaris, a seismologist at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA) that the epicenter of the earthquake was located in a marine area west of Mount Athos, northwest of Karyes.
No material damage has been reported from the seismic tremor, and according to Mr. Vamvakaris, “this particular earthquake does not cause concern among seismologists”.
Earlier, smaller tremors measuring 3.7 and 3.1 on the Richter scale had occurred.
