On Sunday, October 31, 2021, Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium and Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxembourg, performed the Divine Liturgy at the Metropolitan Church of Brussels, along with clergy of the Diocese and from Greece.
The divine word, at the request of the Metropolitan, was preached by the Protopresbyter Fr. Athanasios Gikas, Professor of the Theological School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, who is currently in Belgium as a speaker at the Meeting of the Clergy of the Holy Metropolis, referring to and analyzing the gospel passage of the day.
After the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Doxology was performed on the October 28 “OHI” Day with the presence of the Diplomatic Authorities of Greece in Belgium headed by the Ambassador Dionysios Kalambrezos and the Military Authorities of Greece in NATO headed by Rear Admiral Ioannis Pavlopoulos.
The Ambassador of Greece to Belgium, Dionysios Kalambrezos, referred to the importance of this anniversary and the special importance of the unity of the people in history but also in its perspective for the future.
Then the National Anthem of Greece was sung by the whole congregation, as well as the National Anthem of Belgium.
Finally, a memorial service was held, and wreaths were laid at a cemetery in the city where three Greek soldiers are buried.
