Today, July 16, 2021, the Anniversary Divine Liturgy was celebrated with great emotion and enthusiasm in the orthodox chapel of Saint George in the presence of Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium.
The Divine Liturgy was performed by Archimandrite Philadelphos Kafalis, director of the private office of the Metropolitan of Belgium. The Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Stavros Triantafyllou, General Archieratical Vicar of the Holy Diocese, and the Archdeacon of the Holy Diocese Emilianos Hadjivassiliou chanted.
During the Divine Liturgy, a special prayer was offered for Metropolitan Panteleimon, who worked for fifty-seven consecutive years in Belgium in various positions and in fact as the Metropolitan of Belgium for more than thirty years. As soon as he was given the opportunity, Metropolitan Panteleimon founded the chapel of Saint George at Brussels Airport. The inauguration took place in the presence of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew during his official visit to the Diocese of Belgium in 1996. Prayer was also offered for our brothers affected by the floods in Belgium. Finally, a memorial service was held for the deceased relatives of George Petrou.
After the events at the Brussels airport in 2016, this was the first Divine Liturgy that was performed in this chapel with a limited number of attendees.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium spoke about the Anniversary, referred to the beneficial orthodox testimony of this chapel at the Brussels airport, thanked the Holy God for allowing this blessing, as well as to the Archon George Petrou for his presence on this anniversary.
