The memory of Saint Jeremiah I, Patriarch of Constantinople, from Zitsi, Ioannina, was celebrated for the first time in Ioannina.
The centerpiece of the festivities was the Holy Metropolitan Church of St. Athanasius the Great, in the center of which was placed the Holy Icon of Saint Jeremiah. On the day of the Feast, Metropolitan Maximos of Ioannina presided over a festive Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, who was accompanied by many priests of the city and the region of Ioannina. Also present were the Deputy Regional Governor Agni Nakou and the Mayor of Zitsi Michael Pliakos and the pious people, who rushed to embrace their new Saint.
The Divine Word was proclaimed by the Metropolitan, who referred extensively to the institution of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the multiple responsibilities of the Patriarch, as well as to the spiritual and administrative gifts of Saint Jeremiah. He thanked the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, as well as the Holy Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of Stavronikita, Mount Athos, for the classification of Patriarch Jeremiah as a Saint.
Finally, he expressed gratitude to all those who came and brightened with their presence and prayer on this day, wishing the warm intercession of St. Jeremiah to accompany everyone.
