Wednesday, June 4, 2025, was a powerful and uplifting day for the Archdiocese District, as more than 850 clergy and laypeople gathered for their annual Servant Leadership Awards Banquet.
It was a night to celebrate faith in action, recognizing those who serve their parishes with a deep love for Christ and His people.
Archbishop Elpidophoros of America personally honored two remarkable Orthodox Christian individuals: Archon James Gabriel was recognized for his lifelong dedication and leadership in support of the Church. In a deeply moving moment, the Archbishop also conferred upon Father Peter Daratsos the high ecclesiastical honor of Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne, a recognition from the Holy Mother Church of Constantinople that speaks to a lifetime of faithful priestly service.
This event wasn’t just about awards, it was a reminder of who we are and what we’re called to be. A family of faith, rooted in love, shaped by sacrifice, and committed to serving others. The examples of Archon James and Father Peter remind us that true leadership in the Church always begins with humility and a servant’s heart.
Archbishop Elpidophoros remarked: “As I look around this room, and I see the clergy and laity who work together every day to enhance and expand the spiritual life of our Faithful, I am forever grateful to every one of you for your sacrifices and your enormous dedication to our Lord Jesus Christ and His Holy Church. The experience of the parishes this past Holy Week is a testament to your faithfulness. You are all deserving of the awards we are sharing this evening, because you all have given of your deepest selves on behalf of your fellow parishioners.”
