Greece is consistently committed to its international obligations and it respects International Law, which guides its foreign policy, diplomatic sources said on Wednesday, commenting on a private visit of Turkish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yavuz Selim Kiran in northern Greece.
In this context, the diplomatic sources said, Greece implements the provisions of the Lausanne Treaty of 1923, which recognizes the existence of a Muslim minority in Thrace.
This community prospers and numbers nearly 120,000 people, who are Greek citizens. In addition, the community is served by 127 schools as well as 260 mosques in the region, the sources added.
Any attempt to distort reality and to manipulate the facts, whatever the source, is to be rejected outright and does not require further comment, the diplomatic sources added.
