The Deputy Foreign Minister for Diaspora Greeks, Antonis Diamataris, held a meeting with the President of the Tenedian Association “Tennes”, Christos Kalfas, and the Secretary-General, Panagiotis Okumasi.
Christos Kalfas first retraced the history of Tenedos since 1923 and then set out the key issues facing the Christian population of the island. He made special reference to the preservation of the Greek element. The president of the Tenedian Association asked the deputy minister to help the Greeks return to the island. He also stressed the need for a ferry connection between Tenedos and Imbros and neighbouring Greek islands, such as Mytilene and Lemnos, to facilitate access to the island for the Greeks who want to visit it.
On his part, Antonis Diamataris said that it was a “solemn duty” for Greece to support the Greek diaspora of Tenedos and promised to visit the island shortly.
