The decisions of the meeting of the Holy Synod of the Church of Bulgaria, which took place on the 16th of February, were announced by the Patriarchate of Bulgaria.
The decisions concern the upcoming elections that will take place on the 4th of April 2021 and the issue of the participation of the clergy.
As reported by doxologiainfonews.com, the Holy Synod recalls that according to the charter of the Church, the clergy can not participate in the municipal elections as candidates for mayor and municipal councillors nor to be elected as deputies.
It also makes clear that prayers and the blessing of the waters at the request of political parties, individuals and associations will be performed only in Orthodox churches in accordance with the requirements of the Orthodox Church.
Finally, the greeting of priests (to the political parties) must have a spiritual content.
