The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in the Czech Lands and Slovakia, convened on Wednesday under the presidency of Metropolitan Rastislav, Archbishop of Prešov and Metropolitan of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, received the official notification from Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church regarding the canonization of 16 new Romanian saints.
The hierarchs of the Czech and Slovak Church recognized the holiness of these 16 Romanian confessors and monastics of the 20th century, giving thanks to God for their faithful witness during times of persecution against the Church of Christ and hostility toward religion.
As a result, Orthodox faithful in the Czech Republic and Slovakia will now be able to venerate the newly canonized Romanian saints.
These 16 saints, canonized in the context of the Centennial of the Romanian Patriarchate, will also be included in the calendar of the Orthodox Church of Poland, and in Serbia, they will be added to the Synaxaria.
