Renowned Cypriot traditional singer and chanter, Mr. Stephanos Pelekanis, recently visited the Holy Diocese of Brisbane, where he was warmly received by Bishop Bartholomew of Brisbane. Accompanying Mr. Pelekanis was Mr. Stathis Zampas, President of the Cypriot Community of Queensland.
On behalf of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Bishop Bartholomew extended a heartfelt welcome to Mr. Pelekanis. During their meeting, Mr. Pelekanis expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to converse with the Bishop and for the blessing to chant in Brisbane. He also shared his deep love for the Church and his longstanding desire to meet His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
Bishop Bartholomew thanked Mr. Pelekanis for his visit and commended his efforts in promoting Byzantine music and traditional song. He conveyed the blessings of Archbishop Makarios and expressed appreciation for Mr. Pelekanis’s contributions to preserving and sharing the rich musical heritage of Cyprus.
The Bishop also acknowledged Mr. Zampas for his tireless efforts in promoting Cypriot traditions and customs in Queensland, highlighting the importance of cultural preservation within the community.
