The President of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis, met today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov, at the UN Headquarters in New York.
In his statements after the meeting, President Anastasiadis stated that “it was a very interesting meeting with Lavrov, during which I had the opportunity to inform him about the latest developments and to express his warm thanks for the attitude that Russia has adhered to at the Security Council following the recent events of the violation of the status quo in Ammochostos by Turkey, and to convey our positions and our insistence on continuing the dialogue to find a solution, always on the basis of UN resolutions.
Lavrov reiterated his position that Russia remains committed to finding a solution that is fully in line with UN resolutions and Security Council resolutions.”
Expressed 🇨🇾 appreciation for 🇷🇺 support to our efforts to resume negotiations for a settlement of the Cyprus issue, on the agreed basis as set out in #UNSC resolutions. Also, relayed our gratitude for Russia’s backing on the crucial issue of #Varosha.
