The cutting of the Vasilopita was held by the Archdiocesan Philoptochos Council of Canada, in cooperation with the 16 Philoptochos Chapters of the Greater Toronto Area. The event took place on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in the banquet hall of Saints Constantine and Helen Church in Toronto, where dinner was also served.
The Master of Ceremonies was Mrs. Vasiliki Sotiropoulos, a member of the Archdiocesan Philoptochos Council of Canada.
Present at the event were the members of the Archdiocesan Council, led by its President, Mrs. Zoe Verouti, as well as the presidents of the Philoptochos Societies of Toronto and the surrounding areas, accompanied by many of their members.
Also in attendance were Archbishop Sotirios of Canada, Bishop Athenagoras of Patara, the President of the Greek Community of Toronto, Mrs. Betty Skoutakis, the President of Saints Constantine and Helen Community, Mrs. Frinda Kanaris, and the Presiding Priest, Fr. Evdokimos Mathioudakis.
Six priests participated (where are the nine?) (Luke 17:17).
An address was delivered by the President Zoe Verouti, who emphasized the multifaceted, important, and God-pleasing work carried out by all Philoptochos Chapters for our fellow human beings in need.
All students of our Theological Academy also participated in the event. The Archbishop addressed everyone, and especially our priests, encouraging them to make efforts to attract new students to the Theological Academy, while also highlighting its important mission and work.
In a festive atmosphere, Archbishop Sotirios chanted hymns and songs together with all those present, as well as the New Year’s carols. He then cut the large Vasilopita placed at the table of honour, while Vasilopitas were also placed on every table. Those who found the coin received a commemorative gift from the Archbishop. A raffle was also held for a gold cross, donated by the Philoptochos Society, with Mrs. Eleni Vretanos being the winner.
The dinner and hospitality were lovingly provided by the Philoptochos Society of the Sts. Constantine and Helen Community. We congratulate everyone and thank them for their warm hospitality.
At the conclusion of the event, the Archbishop, together with all those present, chanted the pheme of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, once again expressing our filial love for His All-Holiness.
